Life as a planner, homeschooling parent, and instructional designer, I love my tools. I am an avid iPad, Kindle and iPhone user. I find apps that make my life easier. I am not into many games, so you won’t see me reviewing those. But, I do love a good planning and management app. These apps featured below make my life easier.
Cozi Family Organizer – iPhone/iPad, Android, Kindle Fire and Windows 8.1 Tablet – Free: You can finally have one place for all the schedules, activities, chores lists, grocery lists and to-do lists. You can access, view and update your schedules and lists from virtually any computer or device. We have used this successfully for my family in recent years. Flylady has even created a partnership with Cozi to help you get your home in order while managing all the shopping lists and events that Cozi offers.
Key Ring – iPhone, Android – Free: Organize all those rewards cards right in one app. No longer am I looking for my key ring for all those little ring cards or dig in my wallet finding the right card at the time of checkout. It is as easy as taking the image of your card and storing it in the app. When checking out at your rewards card store, just open the app and show your card image. Super simple way to stay organized while saving time and money.
BrightNest – iPhone, Android – Free: Answer just a few questions and then you are on your way to getting a customized list of tasks and tips to take better care of your home. The app asks questions like if you have children or pets, what specific tasks you take care of (exterior, lawn, etc.) and detailed question such as what type of water heater you have. The app even asks you want type of tips you want to receive. After just a five minute install and a small battery of questions, I had handy and useful tips to start getting my house well maintained.
Fantastical 2 – iPhone, yet compatible for iPad and iPod touch – $4.99 at time of this post. This app does it all – calendar, reminders, events. The features are endless, which is why this one app replaced several of my other apps. You can use natural language to enter events into your calendar and then amazingly call, email or message all the meeting (homeschool moms: think park day or field trip) attendees quickly right from the app. And it even displays a map for your destination. (Hint: you can even have the app open directions in Google Maps app.) This app works seamlessly with your iOS reminders and other calendars you may have already entered your information. I synced all my shared Google calendars in a flash. Skip the cup of overpriced (but yummy) coffee drink this week and purchase this app.
